Acupuncture

What is acupuncture and can it be used on my pet?

Acupuncture is the insertion of very fine needles into specific points of the body to rebalance its energy.  Acupuncture points are located on the ‘Meridians’ or pathways through which the body’s energy flows.  Stimulation of acupuncture points can produce:  Analgesia (pain reduction); anti-inflammation through a release of natural steroids; increased blood circulation; and muscle relaxation.

Acupuncture has been shown to be beneficial in treating the following conditions:

Arthritis
Gastro-intestinal upset
Seizure disorders
Neurological disorders
Musculoskeletal disorders

Underwater Treadmill

How can my pet benefit from the Underwater Treadmill?

The underwater treadmill uses exercising in water to decrease stress on joints through buoyancy while building strength, endurance, and range of motion through resistance.  The warm water promotes blood circulation while relaxing muscles.

The underwater treadmill can be used:

  • For physical rehabilitation after joint surgery.
  • Therapeutically for Hip Dysplasia or Osteoarthritis
  • To help decrease pain and muscle spasms.
  • To increase cardiac fitness and flexibility in athletic dogs used in law enforcement or those used for agility and sporting events.
  • As a tool to recondition overweight dogs

Chiropractic

What is chiropractic?

Chiropractic is the gentle adjustment of the spinal column, extremities, and skull bone junctions to correct skeletal mis-alignments.  These mis-alignments prevent the flow of blood and nerve energy to the joints and organs, which can lead to deterioration.  Chiropractic has been clinically proven  to be effective in treating:

Pain in back, legs and neck
Seizure Disorders
Chronic vomiting
Metabolic dysfunction
Urinary incontinence

What is the advantage of this type of bath?

Hydrosurge bathing offered by Boulevard Veterinary Hospital uses a pump to produce a vigorous penetrating action.  The massaging action soothes and relaxes the animal's muscles. The hydrosurge unit enables the water and shampoo to deep cleanse and help remove shedding hair.  Nail trimming and ear cleaning are included free of charge with all baths. You may drop off your pet in the morning and pick your pet up in the afternoon.

Food & Nutritional Therapies

Why is Food Therapy Important?

As in humans, a healthy and well-balanced diet leads to higher quality of life, more energy and a happier pet.  Nutrition affects your pets entire body, from the internal organs to the hair coat, nails and skin. Additionally, many pets may have food allergies which may be more prevalent in specific breeds and may be managed through food therapy.

Pet Insurance

Why is Pet Insurance important?

A VPI Pet Insurance policy provides reimbursement coverage for your pet's eligible medical treatments, surgeries, lab fees, X-rays, prescriptions and more, so that you can make optimal healthcare decisions for your pet based on your veterinarian's recommendation, rather than on the cost of treatment. It is important to purchase insurance for animals when they are young and free of health problems; if a pet is older and has pre-existing conditions, treatment for these conditions may not be covered.
