HURRICANE EVACUATION PET TIPS

IT IS IMPORTANT TO HAVE A PLAN FOR YOUR PET IN CASE AN EMERGENCY SHOULD ARISE. Red Cross shelters do not accept pets-be sure to make alternative emergency housing arrangements for your pets, so you are not left without a plan should an emergency arise.

Prepare a disaster kit for your pet, including the following:
  • Medications & medical records in a waterproof container (include rabies certificate).
  • First Aid Kit.
  • Leash, harness, collar, & carrier for safe transportation.
  • Current photo of your pet(s).
  • Food and bottled water.
  • Can opener.
  • Cat litter or shredded newspaper and pan.
  • Information on feeding, medical conditions and behavior problems.
  • Emergency contact information if your pet staying with someone else.

ALWAYS BE SURE YOUR PET WEARS ACCURATE IDENTIFICATION
(It is best to have microchip permanent identification)
